Why Da Nang's World Cup matters for Asian pickleball

The Viet Nam Sports Authority presents the Pickleball World Cup 2026 as the event's first edition in Asia. Running in Da Nang from 30 August to 6 September, it brings national-team and individual competition into one tournament week.

The sports authority's pre-event plan projected nearly 4,000 athletes from more than 80 countries and territories. Those are advance estimates and should be distinguished from registration or attendance figures reported later.

A structure spanning generations

The national category covers Open, Kids, Junior, Senior and Master divisions. The individual category is divided by age and DUPR rating, creating separate paths for national teams, developing players and higher-level competitors.

That model matters in Asia because countries at different stages of development can still take part within one event framework. The Sports Authority expects exposure to established pickleball nations to help players gain experience and narrow competitive gaps.

Why Da Nang was selected

Da Nang has hosted Ironman, the Da Nang International Marathon and Asian golf events. It also formed a city-level pickleball federation in March 2025 and hosted PPA Tour Asia 2025, creating an operational, venue and audience base for a larger tournament.

Air connections, visitor infrastructure and venue clusters allow the city to connect competition with a destination experience. The long-term value, however, can only be judged after the event reports actual operational, attendance and tourism outcomes.

Beyond match results

The official source expects the event to support cultural exchange, player development and domestic participation while contributing to the sports-tourism economy. Proposed side activities include forums, community experiences and exchanges between athletes and supporters.
